French Press Techniques

The French Press Formula: Bold Flavor, Simple Method.

The French Press isn’t just a coffee brewing method; it’s an invitation to slow down. In this guide, we break down every step of the process—from choosing the right grind size to mastering the perfect steep. Whether you’re a seasoned coffee enthusiast or just beginning your brewing journey, this guide captures the meditative simplicity of French Press coffee. Rich, bold, and deeply satisfying—this is coffee as it’s meant to be.

Introduction: A Gentle Pause in a Chaotic Morning

There’s something deeply meditative about the French Press—a brewing method that insists on time, patience, and an absence of urgency. Unlike espresso’s sharp, caffeine-jolted urgency or the meticulous precision of pour-over, the French Press invites you to pause, to steep, to wait. It’s coffee as ritual, not commodity.

The Equipment: Choosing Your French Press

Glass or Stainless Steel: Glass offers transparency and romance, but stainless steel retains heat better.

Grind Size: Coarse, like sea salt. Anything finer, and you’ll sip bitterness.

Water Temperature: 90–96°C. Boiling water scalds; lukewarm water mourns.

Step-by-Step Guide: Brewing with Intention

1. Measure: Use a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio. (e.g., 30g coffee to 450ml water)

2. Bloom: Pour hot water gently over the grounds. Let it bloom for 30 seconds.

3. Steep: Add the remaining water and let it steep for 4 minutes.

4. Press: Gently press down the plunger.

5. Serve Immediately: Coffee left in the press continues to brew.

Flavor Notes: A Cup that Speaks Softly

A French Press brew is bold yet delicate. It carries oils, texture, and depth that other methods often filter away. It’s coffee that stays with you.
